This was rebuilt in 1995 after the first gateway was destroyed in 1931 because Stalin considered it an impediment to the parades and demonstrations held with Red Square.  Within the gateway (centre) is the bright Chapel of the Iverian Virgin.

  • The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Eternal Flame.  The tomb contains the remains of a soldier who died in 1941 at km41 of Leningradskoe sh which was the closest the Nazis came to Moscow.  The large block/plaques in front of the tomb honour the Soviet 'hero' cities of WWII.
